Blogging this from Rembrandts
as we enjoy an afternoon drink and use the free wireless access point. I know there are all kinds of reasons to encrypt your wireless points at home but it really is frustrating when I can find 6 networks all from my parents kitchen table and not a one of them is open. (As you might guess from that last comment my parents still live in the 1990's when a computer was only made for playing solitaire.) Oh well that is going to be the nature of these entries, they will be posted when and where they are possible.

Thursday was spent making the trip from Denver to Boise (840 miles) to arrive at my parent's home. It was a long day but there wasn't too much traffic and we got in before it got dark. We did stop along the way at Twin Falls to see the Snake River and the beautiful gorge formed over the years. Just for future reference and so you know I'm actually here, you can see me at the overlook.
Here then is a picture of the river looking down into the gorge. This is the area where those of you who are old enough to remember Evil Knievel will recognize this as the place he "tried" to jump over the river in a rocket car.June 29
Wednesday was a trip from McPherson, Kansas to Denver, Colorado. It was great to catch up with friends from Seminary,
Dave and Gail and their children Matthew and Jessica. In the evening Dave, Gail, Kathy, and I went downtown to 16th. Street Mall and catch a bit of flavor of the new Denver. It was great to visit and share memories of the past including the baseball games we have seen together. (Including one of Mark McGuire's home runs at Coor's Field.)

For those city folks here who don't have a clue as to what I'm talking about this is a picture of a field of wheat waiting to be harvested. It is usually taller than this and very rarely is it still standing by the end of June. The usual harvest time is late May or early June in this part of the country.

We are now in McPherson, Kansas visiting some of Kathy's family. For those of you who think Kansas is flat, check out the Flint Hills for what I think is one of the best parts of Kansas and makes the trip interesting. This will be a brief stop over until we head off to Denver to see former classmates.

Yesterday was an uneventful trip as we stopped just west of St. Louis in St. Peters. I thought about stopping to take a picture of the Mississippi River as we crossed yesterday but really there isn't a lot to see. If you have never been this far west think of the St. Joe River and just make it really wide, probably between a 1/3 to a 1/2 mile at this point.
Last night as we were relaxing in the hotel's hot tub we met a gentleman and his children who were from the St Louis area. In talking about things we found out that he works for the UHL and is in Fort Wayne on a regular basis because of the Komets. It is a small world after all isn't it? It will be interesting to see how far away we can get and not find mutual connections with people.

All Packed And Ready To Go
It's only 10:00 p.m. and already the car is packed and the last thing to put in are toothbrushes and the computer. This is way ahead of our usual preparation time as it is often midnight before the laundry is done and the packing begins. It really feels a little strange that in a little over 12 hours we will be headed out of Fort Wayne for a month or more.
Hopefully we will remember to put in our pillows in the morning!

New Camara
The box arrived and it was as exciting as Christmas morning for a 7 year old!
I got my digital camera delivered this morning that I plan on taking with us on our journey north. Once I learn how to do more than take pictures of the floors and walls I'll start posting them here.

Where the Journey Begins
This blog is designed to follow the travels of Sid and Kathy as they venture out into the great northwest corner of North America. Please check back for pictures and commentary over the next six weeks as they leave Indiana headed for Alaska.
